The government is thinking about making a special visa for people who work on computers and travel around the world. These people are called 'digital nomads.'
Many countries in Europe and other places have made visas for digital nomads. Japan wants to do the same to encourage visitors to spend money here. The idea is to make it easy for skilled workers to stay in Japan.
Digital nomads usually do jobs like making software or designing websites. Around the world, there are about 35 million digital nomads. They spend a lot of money—about $787 billion or ¥110 trillion every year.
The government is making a plan to bring more visitors to Japan. In the plan, they want to talk about letting digital nomads come here. They are looking at things like visas and how long people can stay.
Right now, Japan has agreements with 69 countries, but you can only stay for up to 90 days without a visa. The government is thinking about giving digital nomads a special visa so they can stay longer.
Most digital nomads stay in one place for three to six months. To work in Japan for more than 90 days, people usually need a special work visa. But if you get paid by a company outside Japan, you can't get this visa. You have to get paid by a Japanese company.
Some countries in Europe and Central and South America already have visas for digital nomads. These visas let them stay for about six months to two years.
