The National Association of Realtors recently agreed to settle lawsuits about how much real estate agents charge for their services. People said the association's way of doing things wasn't fair to home sellers and was confusing.
Even though they said they didn't do anything wrong, the association will pay $418 million over four years to end the lawsuits. They also promised to change how fees are decided in real estate deals. This means they'll make new rules for websites where agents list homes for sale and make sure there are written agreements with buyers to explain fees clearly.
These changes might shake up how things work in the real estate world. Normally, agents get about 6 percent of the selling price of a home as a fee. But with these new rules, that could change.
Despite the big changes ahead, the National Association of Realtors thinks it's worth it. They believe it'll make things fairer for everyone involved in buying and selling homes.
